How is it that we live in one of the richest and well developed societies in the world, yet we still have homelessness and people living in real poverty?

All around us, there are enormous social issues: people living in poverty, struggling with debt, unemployment, deprivation, even homelessness. Do we see them? Do we care? We have social and moral obligations to help people in need and the Bible clearly commands us to “love our neighbour”, but how?

Our guest speaker will be Irene Houghton, compassion pastor at Hull Vineyard Church who are actively involved in activities to support the many local people who are living in need. We’ll also hear real life stories of people who are struggling with poverty – on our doorstep.

What was happening on that first Good Friday? Who was the man staked out on a wooden cross, slowly dying in front of a crowd of onlookers? Was he one of the biggest fools the world has ever seen? He claimed to be more than just a man, but was he? Was he mad? Or was he a deluded hoaxer who finally came to a sticky end? Or was he, perhaps, actually more than a man?

Come along and hear what we think, join in, and enjoy coffee and some good company.

David Butterfield, Archdeacon for the East Riding, will explain how science and faith can and do live together. With a need not only to understand HOW we all came to be here, but also to understand WHY we are here. Also speaking will be Dr Bob Duerden, who as a qualified teacher of both science and RE will be able to highlight how these views can be reconciled.
